WordLab: Hands-on Reading and Writing Enrichment Class
Open to all 1st-3rd grade students, our research-based curriculum focuses on building reading and writing skills with minimum screen time, and maximum engagement! WordLab is an opportunity to build literacy skills in a small community of learners guided by expert teachers. Grounded in nature and infused with joy, our hands-on approach builds skills in reading, writing, and spelling, AND boosts confidence. Sessions include: - Read alouds for comprehension and vocabulary building - Interactive explorations with materials sent in a special care package - Break-out groups for focused Structured Word Inquiry lessons - Group reflection and sharing for community building With built-in movement breaks and activities designed to get children to engage with the natural world around them - this isn't just more screen time! Tuesdays & Thursdays | 4:00 - 5:30 PM Mini Series Sessions: - Nov. 3, 5, 10, 12 - Nov. 17, 19 (no class Thanksgiving week), Dec. 1, 3 - Dec. 8, 10, 15, 17 Through this Harvest-Themed Mini Series, Word Scientists will explore the plants we eat from roots to seeds and apply the power of scientific observation and inquiry as we study words using Structured Word Inquiry.
