Acta Non Verba: Youth Urban Farm Project
About
Acta Non Verba: Youth Urban Farm Project (ANV) is proud to offer its unique summer camp with full-day programs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. For an additional fee of $25 per week per child, families may drop off as early as 7:30 a.m. and pick up as late as 6:00 p.m.
FARMING
During this aspect of camp, children will learn about all the aspects of growing their own food. Children will be planning, planting, harvesting, and selling a wide variety of common and unusual fruits, vegetables, and herbs. Excess produce is sold through our CSA program, and 100% of the proceeds are placed in savings accounts for the children.
COOKING
For breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack, campers will work alongside older youths and camp counselors to harvest, prep, and cook produce straight from the farm. Children will experience smashing tomatoes for marinara sauce, rolling dough for biscuits, and watching their food take shape before their eyes.
FIELD TRIPS & OVER-NIGHT CAMPING
Field trips range from swimming trips to exploring the California Science Center to our end of session wilderness camping trip. During camping trips, children will marvel at the heavens on ranger-led star walks, learn to identify edible plants in the wild, and enjoy spooky stories and s'mores around the campfire.
LEADERS IN TRAINING
Camp ANV's Leaders in Training (LIT) Program provides youth ages 12-14 with leadership experience that focuses on cooperative learning and advanced develpment of camp activities.
OTHER ACTIVITIES
Aside from farming and cooking, children enrolled in Camp ANV will learn a variety of life skills and modalities for creative expression. Children will get to explore various forms of dance, visual art, digital storytelling, film-making, leadership building, and conflict resolution.
At Camp ANV, children learn where they play.
