About the Best Classes and Enrichment Programs Awards

The Best of Parents Press Readers Choice Awards celebrate the outstanding programs that enrich the lives of children and families throughout the Peninsula and Silicon Valley. This annual event is more than just a poll—it’s a community-driven recognition of excellence in arts, sports, education, and personal growth opportunities for kids of all ages.

Our voting process happens in two rounds:

  1. Round One (March – Early April): Parents and community members submit open write-in nominations for their favorite local classes and programs.
  2. Round Two (April – May): The top nominees from the first round appear on the ballot for final voting. At this stage, write-in nominations close, and voters select from the curated list of finalists.

Winners are officially announced in the August issue of Parents Press, ensuring families have the latest recommendations for the upcoming school year and activity seasons.

Frequently Asked Questions – Classes and Enrichment Programs on the Peninsula and in Silicon Valley

What types of classes are included in the Best of Parents Press Awards?

Our awards cover a wide range of enrichment opportunities, including art, dance, music, theater, coding, tutoring, gymnastics, martial arts, swimming, and youth sports. Any program that supports children’s learning, creativity, or physical development is eligible.

How are winners chosen?

Winners are determined through community voting in a two-round process. The first round collects nominations, and the second round determines the winners from the top nominees.

Do programs need to be based in the Peninsula or Silicon Valley to be eligible?

Yes. All nominated programs must serve families in the Peninsula and Silicon Valley area, though some may also have locations in other parts of the Bay Area.

Can I nominate a new program next year?

Absolutely! During the first-round nomination period, you can nominate any qualifying class or enrichment program, even if it’s new or has never been nominated before.

When is the best time to enroll my child in these programs?

Enrollment periods vary by program, but many start in late summer or early fall. For seasonal activities like summer camps or swim lessons, registration often opens months in advance, so it’s best to check with the provider early.

Are there free or low-cost enrichment options available?

Yes. Many local community centers, libraries, and nonprofits offer affordable or free classes, workshops, and events for children and families. The awards feature both private and community-based programs.

How can I vote for my favorites?

Voting opens each spring. Keep an eye on Parents Press announcements and social media to participate in both the nomination and final voting rounds.
