About

Firecracker Math is a nonprofit enrichment program in the San Francisco Bay Area, founded in 2011 for students aged 6 to 16. It aims to spark interest and improve mathematical skills by covering topics beyond the standard curriculum, including Number Theory and Logic. The program uses engaging methods like math games and magic tricks to make learning enjoyable.

Summer Camps offer both half-day, math-centric sessions and full-day options that include activities such as chess and science experiments.

Available at six locations across the Bay Area, the program also provides financial aid and discounts to increase accessibility.

Summer Camp Dates: Summer Camps run weekly from June 8 - July 27. You can attend multiple camp weeks
Small Class Sizes: Groups are limited to roughly 10–12 students to ensure personalized attention.
Class Structure: Summer Camp morning lessons are divided into groups. Typically, Elementary, Intermediate, and Upper Division students. We can also place students by parents' recommendations. We accept rising Kindergarten students. Check our website for information on class structure
Flexible Scheduling: Families can choose between Half-Day (9:00 AM – 12:30 PM, math only) or Full-Day (9:00 AM – 4:00 PM) sessions.
Extended Care: Before-care (8:30 AM – 9:00 AM) and after-care (4:00 PM – 5:30 PM) are typically available for an additional fee.
Camp Fees: $350 (Half-day 5 days), $575 (Full-day 5 days), Dropin $80 (Half-day), $135 (Full-day), $50 (Before-care), $125 (After-care). Prorated options available. Multiple Bay Area Locations: Programs are hosted in Berkeley, Oakland/Piedmont, San Francisco, Lafayette, Mill Valley, Danville, and Alameda.
Program & Curricular Features: The daily structure is divided into academic mornings and recreational afternoons. There is a morning break for kids to enjoy playtime and snacks. Afternoons have a lunch break between noon and 1 pm.
Morning Math Lessons: Extracurricular Topics: Covers subjects not typically emphasized in school, such as Number Theory, Combinatorics, Graph Theory, and Logic.
Interactive Learning: Uses math games, magic tricks, paradoxes, and puzzles to demonstrate theoretical concepts.
Level-Appropriate Tracks: Younger kids focus on foundational understanding and hands-on activities, while older students (grades 6+) dive into mathematical proofs and in-depth problem-solving.
Afternoon Enrichment (Full-Day only): After the math sessions conclude, students participate in hands-on activities, including chess, art, science experiments, and organized games.
Expert Instruction: Classes are taught by instructors with advanced degrees in math or science who focus on "sparking joy" in the subject. Our CIT program includes counselors in the fields of Math, Science, STEM, and other math-based programs
