East Bay International High School
Educating Global Citizens
The East Bay International High School (EBIHS) is a multilingual, college-preparatory high school offering the highly regarded International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP). EBIHS is one of only three high schools in the San Francisco Bay Area offering the Bilingual IB Diploma to students who elect to take language and literature courses in both English and a second language.
EBIHS is open to all students, regardless of foreign language ability. The main language of instruction at EBIHS is English, and students choose among multiple language tracks with beginner to native speaker level language and literature courses in German, French, and Spanish, as well as introductory Mandarin.
EBIHS offers unparalleled academic and enrichment programs as well as a diverse international faculty, student body, and community. EBIHS is small by design, providing highly individualized instruction and allowing EBIHS teachers to support each student based on their unique needs.
EBIHS is accredited by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). The EBIHS IB Diploma meets and exceeds university admission requirements in the United States and in many other countries around the world.
Highly Individualized Instruction and Mentoring
With exceptionally small classes and a low student/teacher ratio, EBIHS provides unparalleled individualized support to each student. Faculty members come to know students extremely well and are committed to helping students overcome challenges while inspiring them to pursue their strengths and interests to reach their full potential. One-on-one faculty mentoring and highly differentiated instruction also contribute to a uniquely personalized learning experience.
Advanced Placement (AP) Courses and Exams in Early High School
EBIHS students in grades 9 and 10 have access to a range of Advanced Placement (AP) courses and exams. EBIHS students have taken and excelled in AP examinations in Biology, Computer Science A, Human Geography, Physics, German Language and Culture, Spanish Language and Culture, and Japanese Language and Culture. EBIHS students’ average AP score is 4.3 (out of 5), well above the national average of 3.1.
Bilingual International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program
All EBIHS students in grades 11 and 12 undertake the full IB Diploma Programme (DP). Students may elect to undertake additional language and literature coursework in a second language, qualifying them to receive the Bilingual IB Diploma upon graduation. Only a quarter of IB candidates worldwide earn the Bilingual IB Diploma, further setting EBIHS students apart from other applicants to top universities.
College Credit for AP and IB Courses
Most US universities grant credit for AP exams, individual IB courses, and the IB Diploma. More than 1,000 colleges and universities in North America recognize IB courses in admissions, advanced standing, college credit, and scholarships. At the University of California, IB Diploma graduates qualify for 4 semester unit credits if they pass the IB Diploma with a score of 30 or higher and an additional 16 semester unit credits for 3 Higher Level IB exams with a score of 5 or higher. These credits are in addition to credits awarded for eligible AP exams with a score of 3 or higher. Depending on the university they choose, EBIHS students may be eligible for college credits worth a full year of their undergraduate education.
Graduation and College Admissions Success
The success of the EBIHS inaugural graduating Class of 2025 is a testament to the quality of the EBIHS program and confirmation of the tremendous advantage EBIHS graduates enjoy in the competitive college admissions process. EBIHS graduates’ IB Diploma pass rate was 100% (compared to 81% worldwide). 100% of graduates received the Bilingual IB Diploma (compared to 27% worldwide). 100% of graduates were admitted to colleges/universities.
