Sand Hill School at Children’s Health Council (CHC) is a specialized, independent school serving students in grades 2–8 with learning differences such as dyslexia and ADHD, many of whom also experience school-related anxiety. Designed for students who have not thrived in traditional classroom settings, Sand Hill School provides a structured, supportive environment where each child is understood, challenged, and set up for success.
At the core of Sand Hill School’s approach is the belief that every child can learn and thrive when taught in ways that align with how they process information. Instruction is grounded in evidence-based practices and current neuroscience research, ensuring that teaching methods are both effective and responsive to each student’s learning profile. Small class sizes and low student-to-staff ratios allow for individualized attention, targeted instruction, and meaningful relationships between students and teachers.
The academic program is intentionally integrated with social-emotional learning and executive functioning support. Students build critical skills such as organization, time management, self-advocacy, and emotional regulation alongside their academic work. This whole-child approach helps students not only improve their academic performance but also develop the confidence and resilience needed to navigate challenges in and out of the classroom.
Sand Hill School also emphasizes creativity, curiosity, and joyful learning. Through hands-on, project-based experiences and opportunities for creative exploration, students rediscover a sense of engagement and motivation that may have been lost in previous school environments. The goal is not only to close academic gaps, but to help students rebuild a positive relationship with learning.
As part of CHC, Sand Hill School benefits from access to a broader ecosystem of clinical and educational expertise. This connection allows for thoughtful collaboration when needed and ensures that students and families have access to comprehensive support.
Graduates of Sand Hill School leave with stronger academic skills, greater self-awareness, and the confidence to succeed in their next educational setting and beyond.
