Gifted learners thrive on depth, complexity, and relevance to their lives, making meaningful connections within and across disciplines as they explore big ideas.Helios has embedded the learning of content and skills into semester-long expeditions that provide the context for study and skill development in science, social studies, and language arts. Expeditions invite students to dive deeply into subjects through extensive study of interesting, multidisciplinary topics that connect major subject areas. Our themes are aligned with the Common Core standards in English Language Arts; Next Generation Science Standards, and the California History-Social Science Framework. Math, based on Singapore Math curriculum, is taught in mixed-grade groups according to their readiness, not grade level. It’s typical to see a third grader learning alongside a first or sixth grader.
